The Highbury Community Association (HCA) was formed in 1997 in response to Arsenal Football Club's plans to extend the old Highbury Stadium. Since then, the HCA has grown to assist residents and businesses and represent their concerns on many different aspects of living and working in this area of North Islington in London
The HCA
- Represents over 950 residents and businesses in Highbury, Lower Holloway and Finsbury Park
- Campaigns on issues of interest to the local community and responds to planning applications
- Is run by a committee of volunteers who give their time freely to the Association
- Relies on donations and advertising revenue from the newsletter for all its funding
- Fundraises for local good causes. For example, the has HCA raised over £500 for the Park Theatre in Finsbury Park. In 2012 £600 was raised for Freightliners Farm, a working farm based in the heart of Islington. Over £300 has been raised for the Howard League for Penal Reform.
